Join Press Pass NYC as Our First Anita K Hersh School Program Manager

Press Pass NYC is at an inflection point. Since our founding in 2021, we've helped more than 40 New York City public schools launch or revive student journalism programs, reaching students in grades 6–12 across communities that are often left out of the kind of rigorous, creative learning that journalism provides. Now, with 16 NEW schools joining our 2026-27 Journalism Adviser Fellowship, thanks to the vision and generosity of the Anita K Hersh Philanthropic Fund, we're ready to hire the person who will lead our school programming into our next chapter.

The Role

The School Program Manager is a new position designed to help deepen our relationship with PPNYC’s growing number of partner schools. This person will be the connective tissue between Press Pass NYC and the school administrators, journalism advisers (teachers), and students we serve. They'll visit schools across the city, coach journalism advisers, guide student news teams at every stage of development, and design and lead professional development that meets educators where they are.

As a small team building systems in real time, we’re looking for the right person to help shape how we work, not just execute a playbook someone else wrote.

Who We're Looking For

  • You've spent time at the front of a grade 6-12 classroom and newsroom — teaching, advising, coaching — and you know what it takes to build a journalism program that lasts (candidates must have secondary school teaching and/or advising experience)

  • 3+ years teaching journalism or advising student publications at the secondary level

  • Track record building or significantly strengthening a student publication

  • Skilled facilitator who energizes and supports educators

  • Deep knowledge of journalism principles, ethics, and scholastic press law

  • Experience training and managing student news teams

  • Comfort in a growing, building-as-we-go organization

  • Proficiency with digital media tools and data tracking

  • Ability to travel regularly to schools across all five boroughs (candidates must reside in the NYC area)

Key Responsibilities

•  Conduct regular school visits to coach advisers and support student news teams

•  Design and lead professional development for journalism educators across the network

•  Guide schools through every stage of program development — startup through maturity

•  Manage program logistics, quality standards, and outcome tracking

•  Support delivery of earned revenue programs: workshops, bootcamps, and school consulting

•  Build and maintain strong relationships with school partners and stakeholders

What We Offer

  • Salary: $70,000-$80,000, commensurate with experience

  • Full benefits

  • Generous time off and a professional development budget

  • Flexible hybrid work arrangements

  • The chance to help build something that matters for NYC students
