Susan Szafranski

Susan Szafranski spent nearly 20 years teaching high school English and journalism in the Chicagoland area before moving into her current role as an educational consultant. Now, she focuses on supporting teachers, developing curriculum and resources for nonprofits, and promoting scholastic journalism. Susan believes in the vital role student journalists play in fostering democracy. Her work empowers educators to integrate inquiry-based learning and innovative curriculum into their classrooms, helping students develop essential skills. She is also a dedicated advocate for media literacy, education policy, civic and community engagement, and equity in education.

Susan holds a Master’s in Secondary Education from DePaul University and a Bachelor’s in Rhetoric from the University of Illinois. She’s also a Certified Journalism Educator and Mentor through the Journalism Education Association.
